Presentation of TourX by the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University during Erasmus Days 2022!

TOUR-X is a Center of Vocational Excellence (COVE) ERASMUS+ Project for the Tourism Industry. It aims to enhance the ability of the education providers to adapt the provision of skills to everchanging economic and social needs by setting up Knowledge Triangles of VET providers, representatives of the business sector, and public authorities to collaborate better and contribute to regional development in the Tourism sector.

This will be achieved by applying a bottom-up approach involving twenty-three experienced partners representing the most prominent VET providers, the Tourism sector and Regional Authorities of the seven project countries Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Portugal and China. Greece is regarded as one of the leading European countries in tourism and will be one of the four project countries (along with Italy, Spain and Germany) where knowledge triangles will be formed, targeted to accelerate tourism development at a regional level.

The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) is a project partner in Greece and will be actively involved in all TOUR-X deliverables. Based on its long-term experience and valuable knowhow, DAISSy-HOU will contribute to the creation of TourX – Transnational Ecosystem for VET Excellence in the Tourism Sector, the design of a TourX “Hospitality Labs” ToolBox for Excellence and will promote the TOUR-X activities and deliverables through its network of stakeholders and media.

A concrete example of an exciting dissemination action of DAISSy-HOU is linking the TOUR-X project within the “ERASMUS DAYS 2022” institution! In particular, the TOUR-X presentation was included in the webinar entitled “Digital competences in a cutting edge role for the Culture and Tourism professionals” organized by DAISSy-HOU online and in Greek (Thursday, 13^th October 2022, 19.00-20.30 Greek time). The event focused on what digital transformation implies in tourism and culture and the development impact of the respective professionals.

Foteini Gatomati, Researcher of DAISSy-HOU and Project Manager of TOUR-X, delivered a speech about the milestones of the project and interacted with the participants through a vivid sharing of views and attracting the interest of academics, researchers as well as professionals from various sectors of activity such as education, local government, culture, tourism, etc. The event was included in the “DAISSy Days 2022” initiative organized by the DAISSy-HOU to celebrate the “ERASMUS DAYS 2022”. This is an innovative initiative of the DAISSy-HOU, sharing a valuable experience in the implementation of European projects, including numerous currently ongoing projects funded by the ERASMUS+ EU program.
The TOUR-X is a four-year project co-funded by the ERASMUS-EDU-2021-PEX-COVE program of the European Union. It is coordinated by the “AKMI ANONIMI EKPAIDEFTIKI ETAIRIA-AKMI SA” (Greece) with twenty-two (22) partners in six (6) EU member states (Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Portugal) and China.

TourX presented in Fitur2023, the International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid

On the 18th – 22th of January, ASOFUER (Association of Tourist Entrepreneurs of Fuerteventura) has presented the Tour-X Project to professionals and attendees in general at the 43rd edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair, Fitur2023.

The presentation was given by Antonio Hormiga, president of ASOFUER, Juan Manuel Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, Vicente Betoret Coll, member of the Spanish Parliament and Juan Cabrera, CEO of ALSTENDA.

Excellent data confirms the global tourism growth trend. With more than 220,000 attendees, FITUR 2023 exceeded all expectations, with a balance of absolute success and underlining the good prospects for world tourism activity.

In terms of participation, the fair has brought together 8,500 companies, 131 countries, 755 headliners, along eight pavilions, which have represented an area of 66,900 net square meters.

The impact of Fitur 2023 has also been reflected in the large press attendance and international media coverage recorded during the days of the fair, in which 6,374 journalists have been accredited of which 5,861 have been national and 513 international from 46 countries.

EU Project Innovation Centre (EUPIC) visits EVBB

On the 31^st of January, a delegation of EUPIC, our partner organisation from China visited the offices of EVBB in Brussels. Mrs. Segree Dai (President of EUPIC), as an active partner of the CoVE project “TourX”, came to discuss future plans and possibilities for promoting the TourX project in China, as well as the mutual willingness to discover new opportunities to collaborate in the future, with Mr. Theodor Grassos (Secretary General of EVBB) and Mrs. Meng Wang (EU Project Manager of EVBB).
Mrs. Segree Dai, who was accompanied by Ms. Libai Zhao (Assistant to the President) and Mr. Marco Gasparroni (Head of EUPIC Brussels Office), also stated that the Chengdu municipal government has a strong interest in the “TourX” project and wishes to continue collaboration on projects between China and EU countries with the support of EVBB.

TOURX in the XENIA exhibition, targeted at the Hospitality Industry

On the 26^th of November, TOURX had the opportunity to be present in the XENIA event, one of the biggest exhibitions in Athens, targeted at the Hospitality Industry. The event gathered professionals and enterprises from the tourism industry, and hosted a lot of interesting panel discussions, focusing on the future of the sector. The TOURX project had the opportunity to inform the visitors of the TOUR-X program and the aim to contribute to the growth of the sector by engaging market representatives, VET providers and regional authorities.

Tour-X in 2022 Forum on Vocational Excellence in San Sebastian

On 15-16 November 2022, TOUR-X participated in the 2022 Forum on Vocational Excellence!

An amazing two-day event focusing on excellence in VET, partnerships, exchanging views, and good practices. The event was organized by the European Commission and the Basque country and it gathered around 300 participants from different CoVE projects and from several parts of the world.

The Conference offered a dense program of plenary and group sessions, and a diverse group of speakers and participants. TOUR-X was there and had the opportunity to disseminate the project’s mission and objectives during the Conference and exchange with other CoVE projects.

The German partners are preparing for the next mobility of TOUR-X!

After the successful TourX study visit to AKMI in Athens in October 2022, the AVT together with DEHOGA Brandenburg is preparing the 2023 study visit of the TourX partners in Germany. The AVT will host the participating educational institutions of the project consortium in spring 2023.On November 9, 2022, the first working meeting took place at the AVT for this purpose. The focus was on the study visit to Germany in May 2023.

As part of the current work packages of the TourX project, the curricula for the course offerings on the Digital Method Kit for Trainers and for the online training for the 2023 Brandenburg Hospitality Campaign were also discussed.

TourX and EVBB Conference in Kathimerini Newspaper

This week, Kathimerini, one of the most prominent newspapers of the Greek press published an article on the EVBB Conference reporting among others the presence of the TOURX project:

“…The Conference included a workshop on sustainable tourism, bringing examples from the TOUR-X project, the biggest transnational project, co-funded by the European Union, that is currently implemented in Greece with the objective the upskilling in the Tourism sector…”

First Study Trip in Athens accomplished!

From 20 to 25 October, the Tour-X team had the opportunity to spend some time together in Athens implementing the first mobility activity of the project aiming to foster international knowledge transfer in our network.

These 5 dense days included:

Attending the international conference of EVBB on the Climate Crisis and the Role of VET
Cooking for a good cause in collaboration with the Municipality of Piraeus
Exploring the beauties of the Attica Region by an excursion to the Temple of Poseidon in Cape Sounion, a cultural and archaeological landmark of Greek tourism.
Visiting the Hospitality Labs of AKMI, the hosting organization of the trip
Exchanging innovative learning practices in VET
Discussing mobility opportunities

Tour-X in Thessaloniki International Fair 2022

TourX project was promoted and disseminated in Thessaloniki International Fair 2022, represented by the Greek-Italian Chamber of Commerce which participated as an international guest in the Fair. The Greek-Italian Chamber of Commerce presented the project, not only to national, local authorities and agencies but also to many visitors. In numbers, more than 20 representatives from authorities ,agencies and schools received detailed information about the project and more than 200 leaflets were distributed to visitors during the exhibition.
