Strengthening digital skills for SMEs in tourism with a new e-learning curriculum

After 12 months of intensive work on the development and design of a new online course series to strengthen digital skills, the results are now available. Based on the results of two online surveys on learning topics of interest for the further training of entrepreneurs and employees in hospitality businesses, the TourX partners AKMI International c/o Universal Education, BK-Con and DEHOGA Brandenburg developed a course curriculum with 3 modules in a complementary KA2 small-scale project.

The new course-curriculum ā€˜E-Tourism: Digital Skills for Small and Medium-sized Tourism Enterprises (SMEs)’ is aimed primarily at entrepreneurs and their employees in small tourism businesses with the aim of imparting basic knowledge of digital applications and strengthening individual skills in self-directed learning in an online learning environment.

Module 1 ā€˜Online Apps for Tourism’ offers an introduction to the most important digital tools for the tourism industry, with a focus on online booking systems, property management systems and guest management applications.

Module 2, ā€˜Service Quality in Hotels and Restaurants’, provides a basic understanding of the need for excellent service in the hospitality industry. Excellent service is essential for long-term business success and requires service personnel to have a variety of skills that cover all aspects of the guest care process.

The objective of Module 3 ā€˜Intercultural Competences on the Job’ is to provide learners with intercultural awareness in the work environment and the concept of intercultural competence. The design of the course offering as a multilingual learning offer also takes this into account. The course modules are available in the course languages English, Greek and German.

The developed course material was tested in various course formats and evaluated by different cooperation partners. Their recommendations are now being incorporated into the further optimisation of the course curriculum.

The course will be available free of charge to companies from January 2025 as an online course with all modules on the DEHOGA Brandenburg’s Moodle-based learning platform ā€˜HOGA like’. More information you find also here: https://e-tourism-project.eu.
